In an attempt to complete a deal for just €20 million, Italian media are becoming more and more certain Milan will pursue Koni De Winter in place of Newcastle-bound Malick Thiaw. When Thiaw was sold to Newcastle United for over €40 million with add-ons, the initial thought was that they would use the entire sum to buy Giovanni Leoni from Parma. However, other reports, including Sky Sport Italia, Sportitalia, and Tuttomercatoweb, agree that the Genoa defender is the main target after La Gazzetta dello Sport implied this morning that they were leaning towards De Winter.
This is because, in comparison to Parma's €40 million asking price for 18-year-old Leoni, he would only cost half as much, perhaps €18–20 million. Additionally, there would be a portion of the sell-on fee.
