Napoli are ready to rival Inter Milan to sign Giovanni Leoni

Gianluca Di Marzio, a transfer market specialist for Sky Sport Italia, said as much. On his webpage, he states that the Blucerchiati are hoping to sell the young defender for €5 million. Leoni, a teenage defender, was on loan at Sampdoria for the previous season. The 17-year-old was a Padova loanee at the Marassi.

Leoni established himself as a key member of the Ligurian side's defense despite his youth. For €1.5 million, Sampdoria had the option to acquire Leoni from Padova. And that they will exercise this was never in doubt. The youngster can be sold for a profit even if the Blucerchiati decide not to hang onto him. Now that Sampdoria is attempting a second season of promotion back to Serie A after finishing in the second division the previous year, the issue is if they will hold onto Leoni for another year.
