Gutierrez has won a significant transfer to the Serie A champions after three outstanding seasons at Girona. After playing a crucial part for Michel Sanchez's upstart Girona in the previous two seasons, Gutierrez has drawn interest from several elite European clubs. According to Diario AS, the sale, which Napoli confirmed on Tuesday, has been completed for €18 million plus an additional €2 million in variables. After undergoing ankle surgery, he is currently recuperating and should return to play soon.
Three summers ago, the 24-year-old originally joined Girona on loan from Real Madrid. Girona then paid €4 million to make the move permanent. Los Blancos did, however, include a 50% sell-on fee, which means they will receive €9 million from the transaction, with the possibility of an additional €10 million. Real Madrid has doubled their money overall, making a €5 million profit from the transaction.
