Netherlands defeated Turkey to play England in the semi-final

After an outstanding first-half performance, center-back Samet Akaydin had rightly placed Turkey ahead with a header from a dinked cross by Arda Guler. In order to defeat Turkey and go to the Euro 2024 semi-finals against England, the Netherlands had to come from behind. The Dutch later overturned the deficit thanks to an own goal by Mert Muldur, who bundled the ball over his goalline while being pressed by Cody Gakpo.

After the interval, the Netherlands, who had a subpar first half, improved thanks to Wout Weghorst's replacement. Moments after Weghorst made a vital interception inside his own box to deny Turkey's Kaan Ayhan a rebound, they equalized with a header from Stefan de Vrij. Guler of Real Madrid curled a spectacular free kick against the post, nearly doubling Turkey's lead, but they failed to take advantage of their opportunities.
