Although Vincent Kompany's team enjoyed a strong start, Newcastle had already won the match by halftime. The Brutal Newcastle's 4-1 thumping of Burnley at Turf Moor raised their hopes of qualifying for the Europa League. Burnley suffered a humiliating blow as Nottingham Forest defeated Sheffield United 3-1 as well, taking them five points from safety with two games remaining. Burnley's remaining games are a trip to Tottenham the next week and a visit from Forest on the last day.
After a promising start and several good chances in the first fifteen minutes, Callum Wilson's goal was the Newcastle's first meaningful assault later the game became out of reach for Burnley 19 minutes in. Goals from Sean Longstaff and Bruno Guimaraes sealed the deal just before halftime. Early in the second half, Alexander Isak missed a penalty kick, but he immediately scored the fourth, moving Newcastle up to sixth place ahead of Manchester United's Monday trip to Crystal Palace.
