Newcastle United have completed the signing of German defender Malick Thiaw from AC Milan, the club confirmed on Tuesday. The 23-year-old, linked with Real Madrid and Bayern Munich last summer, joins Eddie Howe’s side after a successful spell in Serie A, where he made 85 appearances, scored once, and won the Supercoppa Italiana.
Thiaw, who started his career at Schalke before a €5 million move to Milan, will wear the No. 12 shirt at St. James’ Park. “I’m really excited to join this massive club,” he said, praising Howe’s vision and the passion of Newcastle’s fans. The signing brings welcome relief for Newcastle after a frustrating transfer window that saw targets Benjamin Sesko, Hugo Ekitike, James Trafford, and João Pedro join rivals, while star striker Alexander Isak pushes for a move away.
