Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola revealed after Manchester City's 5-1 victory over Burnley that Rodri was unable to play any minutes against the Clarets because he was struggling with the same knee in which he tore his cruciate ligament.
Rodri was unable to play against the Clarets due to discomfort in the same knee that kept him off the pitch for virtually the entire previous season. Rodri, in friday training, said, "I’m not able to play. I have a lot of pain in my knee, I cannot play," Guardiola told reporters.
Rodri returned to competitive action this summer in the Club World Cup and has gradually gained playing time, completing matches against Manchester United, Arsenal and Napoli in the same week, and rested in the Carabao Cup.
City prepare for second UCL match of the season. Judging by Guardiola's tone, they are likely to face Monaco without their midfield general.
