After Rafael Benitez, a former manager of Liverpool, first noticed Philippe Coutinho while in charge of Internazionale, the Brazilian star didn't take long to demonstrate his potential. Coutinho, who joined in January 2013 for just £8.5m, later contributed to the beginning of the Reds' most successful Premier League period under Jürgen Klopp.
The current tweak in Liverpool's strategy may signal that it is time to move attention from competing for Jude Bellingham's signing next summer to finding the edge that has been missing since he left for Barcelona for £146 million. In any scenario, Liverpool needs to bring in a forward player who can make a difference on the field. There is no greater example for Klopp to follow than Coutinho's productive tenure at Anfield. That could prevent the Reds from signing Bellingham, but there are plenty of other players who might potentially take the place of players like Fabinho and Jordan Henderson.
