Liverpool are securing a new central defender as Giovanni Leoni arrived in the city yesterday for medical tests and contract signing, according to specialized press.
He had been traveling with his agent, after reports confirmed the deal with Liverpool is fully complete. Parma will receive €35 million for the player plus 10% of any future transfer fee.
Italian press had earlier reported that Parma's management requested Leoni stay with the club on loan for the 2025/2026 season. It all depends on how Liverpool's negotiations with Mark Guehi unfold, as the Reds' central defense remains a weak spot.
For reference, Leoni transferred to Parma from Sampdoria in 2024. Last season, he appeared in 17 matches for the team, scoring 1 goal, with averages of 3.6 clearances, 0.8 tackles, and 0.9 interceptions per game.
