Despite rumours that Real Madrid may be interested in selling Vinicius Junior after his anger at being substituted in 'El Clasico', that option has never crossed the minds of the 'Merengues' board, according to many sources.
The frenzy is largely self-inflicted, after his dramatic reaction towards manager Xabi Alonso for being taken off against Barcelona left little room for interpretation. His frustration is somewhat understandable given the magnitude of the fixture - yet his words have placed intense scrutiny on the club.
After being taken off in the 2-1 victory, a television crew caught Vinicius saying: “Always me! I’m leaving the team! It’s better if I leave, I’m leaving.” Reports in recent months had already suggested that Madrid might consider parting ways with him.
Real Madrid are publicly downplaying the incident - and behind closed doors, Vinicius is now expected to resolve his differences with Alonso.
