Fabrizio Romano and Chris Smith broke the news that FC Dallas was set to sign Ricardo Pepi for a club-record $20 million fee. The agreement isn't finished yet, but it's nearing completion. Pepi is flying to Germany to finish his physical and make the move official. FC Dallas is ready to sell a Homegrown talent for $20 million. Even with all of Pepi's allocations in the previous year or so of his brief career, that's a bit insane.
Since Vancouver sold Alphonso Davies to Bayern Munich, this is one of the most costly outgoing MLS homegrown players. During the 2021 season, the 18-year-old attacker scored 13 goals and had three assists in 31 MLS matches. With three goals and three assists in six World Cup qualifying matches, he also made his USMNT debut and immediately established himself as the team's favored striker in Concacaf's Octagonal.'
