It was a hot afternoon at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia Pennsylvania, Uruguay needed to in this match desperately because Venezuela had already won their first match and the Charruas lost against Mexico in Group C. It was destined to be a very difficult match for both sides, the first half an hour we weren't able to see a clear favorite, Uruguay may have gotten the most convincing chances to score the first goal but there was nothing too clear for them.
Then came the 36th minute, Guerra volleyed a long distance ball and hit the bar but it didn't go in. However, Rondon was there to take the rebound and push the ball inside for Venezuela's first goal. Uruguay was being defeated once more and getting completely eliminated from the tournament. But there was still over 50 minutes left to play, they had a chance to come back from that upset after Venezuela's unexpected goal.
After coming back from half time, Uruguay was desperate to get that equalizer by any means possible. As time went by, they seemed to get more and more desperate to score but the Venezuelans were very well organized on the back. This is when Uruguay started ti miss a decisive player such as Luis Suarez, who even started to warm up on the sideline. But manager Tabarez wasn't having it, using Luis Suarez would mean that he would risk another injury which could not be beneficial for them. The Uruguay fans were all desperate because time was running out.
Exactly on the 90th minute, Cavani had the chance to get the equalizer but he sent his shot wide by a few inches. Uruguay was getting eliminated from the Copa America on their second game, incredible from the 2011 champions. Luis Suarez was fuming on the sidelines because coach Tabarez didn't use him, he made a scene worthy of a teen ager. At the end, Uruguay attempted through all means but they kissed the Copa America Centenario good bye. Striker Rondon became the first Venezuelan to score in three consecutive Copa America tournaments.
