Sevilla beats Rayo Vallecano to stop their losing skid

Sevilla eventually put an end to a five-game slide in La Liga without a win that began on December 19. It faced a disgruntled Rayo Vallecano, who was beginning to notice flaws in the Andalusian wall in front of them but was unable to breach it.

Both teams had success with the ball in the first half. Youssef En-Nesyri scored the first goal with a superb finish after Aridane's deflection put the ball in his path. Rayo was causing problems for Sevilla, with Ivan Balliu dominating down the right and Isi Palazon giving them inside headaches. The goal finally came from the left, when Isi found himself inside the box, finishing with a shot that went past Orjan Nyland and into the top corner. However, just before the half ended, En-Nesyri's second goal eased Sevilla as they regained a lead and kept a hold of it throughout the second half.
