Stuttgart beat Dortmund 2-1 in the Bundesliga

Jeff Chabot's goal and Waldemar Anton's own goal helped VfB Stuttgart to defeat Borussia Dortmund 2-1 at Signal Iduna Park, ruining Niko Kovač's first game as coach. Both teams created chances throughout the cagey first half. Chabot had a header from a free-kick go in the net, but the offside flag denied him, and Jamie Leweling forced a stop in the sixth minute as Stuttgart got off to a strong start. In the 22nd and 27th minutes, Jamie Bynoe-Gittens of Dortmund looked active and put Alexander Nübel to the test with long-range attempts.

Five minutes into the second half, former VfB captain Anton accidentally turned Chris Führich's cross into his own net, ending the tie. After a Leweling cross, Chabot scored his first goal in the Bundesliga from close range in the 61st minute to extend Stuttgart's advantage. After a solid corner routine, Brandt curled a low shot into the bottom corner to give the home team their first goal in the 81st minute. Stuttgart held strong to earn a crucial away win that puts them in the running for UEFA Champions League qualifying even after six minutes of extra time.
