Taiwo Awoniyi’s goal gives Union Berlin a winner

Union Berlin pulled off a big upset against Borussia Mönchengladbach, Taiwo Awoniyi scored the winner for Berlin as they found the first Bundesliga win with 2-1 on Sunday. Jérôme Roussillon’s second half goal then helped Wolfsburg take down Leipzig by 1-0. The 24-year-old moved to the Bundesliga side on a loan from Liverpool. Awoniyi now went on to score in Union’s opening three games.

It is Union’s third season in Bundesliga has now stretched their unbeaten run at home to 18 games with nine wins and nine draws after the win over Gladbach. Köpenick-based team had five new signings in their starting XI and this time Leven Öztunali, Paul Jaeckel, Rani Khedira, Genki Haraguchi and Timo Baumgartl had been given a chance against Mönchengladbach.
