Thomas Partey wins big at the 7th Ghana Football Awards.

The 7th Ghana Football Awards took place on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre in Accra, Ghana. The event, a glamorous celebration of Ghanaian football excellence, was marked by a vibrant red carpet starting at 7 PM and was broadcast live on Joy Prime TV.

Overview:
The Ghana Football Awards, a Football Impact Africa initiative in collaboration with AE Media, recognises outstanding Ghanaian football players, coaches, administrators, and stakeholders both locally and internationally. Launched in 2018, the awards aim to honour exceptional performances during the football season under review, with the 2025 edition being the seventh iteration of this prestigious event. The ceremony was strictly by invitation and featured iconic entrances, live performances by artists such as Enam, Olive The Boy, and Amandzeba, and was hosted by Nii Attoh and Joselyn Dumas, with Alexis Laura and Owuraku Ampofo anchoring the red carpet.

Key Highlights and Winners:
The 7th Ghana Football Awards celebrated a wide array of talents, with Arsenal and Black Stars midfielder Thomas Partey emerging as the night’s biggest winner, clinching the Footballer of the Year award for a historic third time. Partey, who beat stiff competition from teammates Inaki Williams and Antoine Semenyo, was recognized for his stellar performances at Arsenal in the English Premier League and his pivotal role as the heartbeat of the Ghana national team, the Black Stars. His victory solidified his status as a role model for aspiring Ghanaian footballers and elevated the profile of Ghanaian football on the global stage.

Doris Boaduwaa was crowned the Women’s Footballer of the Year, celebrated for her remarkable contributions to women’s football. Her win highlighted the growing prominence of female footballers in Ghana.

In the domestic categories, Razak Simpson of Nations FC and the Black Stars shone brightly, winning both the Home-Based Footballer of the Year and the Goal of the Year awards. His exceptional performances in the Ghana Premier League underscored the depth of talent in local football. Benjamin Asare was named Goalkeeper of the Year, recognized for his outstanding displays between the posts during the season.

The Odartey Lamptey Future Star Award went to Jerry Afriyie, a promising young talent who outshone competitors to claim the honor, signaling a bright future for Ghanaian football.

Kwesi Appiah was awarded Men’s Coach of the Year, while Abu Kassim took home the Women’s Coach of the Year award, both recognized for their exceptional leadership and impact on their respective teams. John Peter Amewu was honored as the Club CEO of the Year, acknowledging his significant contributions to club management.

The Living Legend Award was bestowed upon Mr. Harry Zakkour, Mr. Herbert Mensah, and Mr. Ken Bediako, celebrating their enduring contributions to Ghanaian football.

The ceremony also featured a notable nomination for the Best African International award, which was won by Achraf Hakimi after beating competition from Serhou Guirassy and Mohammed Salah.

Event Atmosphere and Significance:
The 7th Ghana Football Awards was described as a night filled with glitz, glamour, and powerful moments, attended by football legends, current players, coaches, media personalities, and enthusiasts. The event not only celebrated individual and team achievements but also underscored the unity and camaraderie among Ghana’s football community. Thomas Partey’s acceptance speech emphasised the importance of his award, equating it to any other in his career, while Mohammed Kudus, a previous winner, had earlier spoken about the responsibility of the new generation to build on the legacy of past footballing icons.

The awards showcased the depth of talent in Ghanaian football, from established stars like Partey to rising prospects like Afriyie, and highlighted the contributions of local players, coaches, and administrators. The inclusion of categories like the Living Legend Award and special recognitions for stakeholders reflected the holistic approach to honoring all facets of the sport.

Sponsorship and Media Coverage:
The event was sponsored by NASCO Ghana, FCM MEA, and Shell Ghana, ensuring a high-profile production. Live coverage on Joy Prime TV and extensive social media engagement, particularly on platforms like X, amplified the event’s reach.

Conclusion:
The 7th Ghana Football Awards was a resounding success, cementing its status as a premier event in Ghanaian sports. By recognizing the achievements of players like Thomas Partey, Doris Boaduwaa, and Razak Simpson, alongside emerging talents and key stakeholders, the awards celebrated the past, present, and future of Ghanaian football.
