Borussia Dortmund defeated Mainz 2-0 on the road on Saturday, with Karim Adeyemi scoring once again to keep up with Bundesliga leader Bayern Munich. Serhou Guirassy, Dortmund's premier forward, had to miss the game due to a leg injury before commencement. In last weekend's 1-0 victory over Wolfsburg, Guirassy suffered a setback. Julian Brandt, on the other hand, positioned himself just behind the leading two. Paul Nebel hit the post at the other end of a counterattack in the 27th minute, and Brandt set up Daniel Svensson for the first goal.
During a second counterattack in the 40th minute, Adeyemi scored for the second straight game after cutting away a ball and sprinting forward to play a one-two with Brandt. Goalie Robin Zentner's dismissal in the 67th minute for bringing down Adeyemi dealt further blow to Mainz's chances. Fabio Silva, a Portuguese attacker, was brought in late for his debut by Dortmund coach Niko Kovač.
