Tottenham Hotspur are actively pursuing a new defensive midfielder ahead of the 2025/26 season, with Joao Palhinha of Bayern Munich among their top targets. Spurs recently made a loan enquiry for the 30-year-old, but Bayern have rejected the proposal, insisting on a permanent deal. Palhinha struggled to make an impact under Vincent Kompany last season and may be available for the right fee.
However, Spurs must first clear space in their squad before making a move. Alongside Palhinha, Tottenham are also tracking Douglas Luiz. The Brazilian midfielder joined Juventus from Aston Villa last summer after helping Villa secure Champions League qualification, but has failed to settle in Italy. Injuries and strong competition for places limited Luiz to just 19 league appearances, and a Premier League return could appeal to both the player and Tottenham if the opportunity arises.
