Wales advance to the last 16 stage even after the 1-0 defeat by Italy

Wales secured the second spot in Group A even after Italy beat them by 1-0 in the Euro 2020 match. Italy finished at the top with Matteo Pessina’s 39th-minute winner denying Wales the top spot, Switzerland even after beating Turkey by 3-1 could not get ahead of Wales who enjoy the goal difference advantage. Wales was left with a 10 men squad for the last 35 minutes after Ethan Ampadu was issued a red card but they still finished second to qualify for the knockout stage.

Switzerland on the other hand still remains hopeful and their hopes to qualify for the last 16 stage rests on being one of the four best third-placed sides. Xherdan Shaqiri’s brace helped Switzerland’s win over Turkey as they secured a 2-0 lead before halftime and made that 3-1 at the end of the match as they overcame their 3-0 loss to Italy and the 1-1 draw with Wales. Turkey ends their campaign early with three straight defeats.
