Wenger turns to the market after Gabriel's injury

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was really upset this Sunday when he realized that another one of his defenders, Gabriel, was taken off the field in a stretcher. The injury looks like something really serious but further tests will be conducted this Monday, but the first impressions are looking at an ankle ligament damage that may leave him out of competition for the rest of the year at least. Next to Per Mertesacker who plays the same position, Gabriel marks the third injured player in that spot.

Manager Arsene Wenger confirmed the injury after the 3-2 victory against Manchester City, he also confirmed that he will be hunting for at least two more defenders in this summer transfer window. French defender Laurent Koscielny is available but not yet fit to play the first couple of fixtures in the tournament, this leaves Wenger very few options to maneuver.

After the match, Wenger told the press that: "I’ve said many times that we are in the market. Of course it’s not an easy market for us. Let’s hope we have good news from Gabriel. Laurent Koscielny is back in training [on Monday] but he might be short for next week [Premier League opener against Liverpool]. If Gabriel is out, Per Mertesacker is out and Koscielny not ready - that’s a lot of players."
