A last-minute equalizer by Zenit St Petersburg denied Chelsea a chance to qualify for the Knockout stage of the Champions League with a first-place finish in their Group. The relegated Russian club Zenit got their hands on a dramatic leveler in stoppage time to finish 3-3 in their last Champions League match of the season. Chelsea opened strong with Timo Werner’s shot that came in the second minute and Zenit then answered at 37th minute when Douglas Santos scored with a header after some sloppy work by Chelsea.
Just three minutes later Zenit was in the lead with Sardar Azmoun’s shot as Chelsea ran around looking for a leveler Romelu Lukaku answered their players with his first goal since September in the reverse fixture. Werner scored his second goal which seemed like a winner for Blues until Zenit clawed their way back to a draw in stoppage time.
