Stirling will once again lead Ireland in T20 World Cup

Veteran batter Paul Stirling will captain Ireland’s squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup, leading a group eager to redeem themselves after a disappointing 2024 campaign. Remarkably, twelve players from that tournament return, ensuring stability, while three promising debutants, Tim Tector, Ben Calitz, and Matthew Humphreys, add fresh and dynamic energy.

Selector Andrew White stated that the past eighteen months involved testing various tactical combinations to blend this experience with youth. Tim Tector joins his brother Harry, providing solid top-order batting and off-spin options, while Calitz and Humphreys bolster the middle order and spin attack.

Ireland is placed in Group B alongside Australia, Oman, Zimbabwe, and co-hosts Sri Lanka. Their tournament campaign begins in Colombo on February 8 against the hosts. Having played frequently in the region recently, the team feels confident and thoroughly prepared for the sub-continental conditions, aiming to improve significantly upon their previous world stage performance.
