For upcoming transfer windows, AC Milan is purportedly reorienting its attention to Italian-born players in an attempt to overcome the difficulties presented by Serie A and Champions League squad list restrictions. According to Calciomercato, teams are required by both Serie A and the Champions League to submit player lists before the beginning of the season, with quotas reserved for players who are homegrown. Before every league game and following the group rounds of European play, these lists are subject to change. According to the regulations, players created in the club's own youth system must occupy four places, while players educated in Italian academies must occupy the other four. Players under 22 are not included in these computations in Serie A.
Milan's present predicament is worrisome as they are essentially "wasting" four spots on their Serie A roster. Two of the players are club-trained, Davide Calabria and Matteo Gabbia, while the other two are Italy-trained, Marco Sportiello and Alessandro Florenzi.
