ACCRA LIONS SHARES SPOILS WITH ELMINA SHARKS IN SEASON'S OPENER

Salifu Rauf's strike cancelled Michelle Sarpong's opener for Sharks at the Accra Sports Stadium to earn Lions their first top-flight point
Accra Lions announced their arrival in the Ghana Premier League in a style as a goal from their talisman, Salifu Rauf earned their first top-flight point against Elmina Sharks at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Sharks took the lead in the second half after a pulsating goalless in the first half – it was a howler from the ‘Lions’ goalkeeper who fumbled a cross for former Hearts of Oak midfielder, Michelle Sarpong to tap home from close range for the first goal of the season. The goal came against the round of play as the home side were the better side. Elmina Sharks lead lasted for just seven minutes before Rauf announced himself to the premier league with the equalizer with six minutes of regulation time to play.

Elmina Sharks were not given any room to operate as the home side started the game in a blistering manner and could have scored a couple of goals in the first half but lack of composure and decision making caused them to end the half goalless.

The visitors took the lead in the 64th minute when Appiah Kubi in post for Lions failed to handle a cross as he fumbled and dropped it for Sarpong to hit it passed the defenders into the back of the net to register the first goal of the new season.

Salifu Rauf, the striker scored 21 games in 27 games for the newly-promoted side in division one to help his side seal promotion did not have to wait that long to get off the mark in the premier league as he squared things up in the 84th minute.
