Aguero didn't lose confidence despite penalty fiasco

Back in the 90's decade, Argentine striker Martin Palermo missed three penalties in the same match, this is a world record for any player in football history. Sergio Aguero came pretty close from that this past Tuesday when Manchester City visited Steaua Bucarest for the Champions League preliminaries. Aguero missed two penalties but later got even by scoring a beautiful hat-trick which helped his team win 5-0, this was more than enough for Manchester City to go back home and think about this weekend's Premier League's next match.

When asked about his confidence to keep shooting the penalties, Aguero responded after the match: "Yes, I'm confident enough to continue. I changed my mind about how to take the second penalty, but it didn't go in unfortunately, but it's OK. Things worked out well in the end. I haven't missed two penalties and scored three before! I was happy to score so many goals, but the most important thing for me was that the team won. After I missed my first penalty, my head was spinning a bit, but I thought 'I have to carry on and try to score this one', but I missed. I managed to score though."

He continued to talk about distractions coming from outside the field: "The laser? That's not an excuse. I missed the penalties and I know I have to improve and I will try to improve."

Nolito also added: "Kun is a great player, a great striker, one of the best strikers in the world and this is football. He's shown tonight, despite missing two penalties, that he is a great striker and that he is not worried or affected by the misses at all. He has come away with three goals. It's a privilege to have him in our team. We know how good he is. He's a killer, a great goalscorer. I think he's going to help us a lot this season."

Zabaleta also talked about the miss: "It was tough when he missed the second penalty. I was just thinking 'that must be very hard'. I've never seen Kun miss two goals in the same game, but I think he has that kind of personality where he took the second after missing the first, you can see how good he is and that he had the confidence to score a hat-trick. Big strikers, they can turn things around."
