The Brazilian international is still a favourite of the Reds, who had a summer offer rejected by Fluminense. The Brazilian team turned down comparable offers from Fulham and West Ham of the Premier League because they wanted to keep Andre for their ongoing Copa Libertadores campaign. Next month, Fluminense will participate in the South American version of the Champions League final, and they want to win the trophy for the first time ever.
The Rio-based club had been open to taking proposals for Andre, but only if the prospective buyer agreed to hold off on the transfer until the January window, something none of the interested parties were willing to do in the summer. Wataru Endo, a player from VfB Stuttgart, was finally chosen by Liverpool to fill their 'number six' post, but the Japan international will turn 31 in February, and there may be a desire to find a player who can fill the position in the long run.
