As many of you may already know, Alvaro Arbeloa has never been on the best of terms with Iker Casillas and Gerard Pique, the constant heated arguments with Pique reached new heights lately as they got tangled up in a twitter argument over the Barcelona-Real Madrid rivalry. Alvaro felt deeply disrespected by Gerard Pique after a public statement where he compared him with a traffic cone, a really nasty offense to any defender in football lore.
The issue with Iker Casillas was different, because when the club was divided between Iker and Jose Mourinho, Arbeloa clearly took Mourinho's side. At the end, the problem with Iker never got solved and the goalie had to leave Real Madrid to play in Porto. These fronts remained open until Arbeloa's good bye from the Santiago Bernabeu last Sunday, both Casillas and Pique publicly wished him the best of luck in an educated but not very fond manner.
This past Monday, the player spoke to Spanish journalist Jose Ramon de la Morena to talk about this in his program El Larguero. The player thanked both for their kind words, but he left clear that he never disrespected Pique at any moment like he did: "I don't hold a grudge against Pique, despite what he said about me. I'm calm because I defended my team and I never disrespected Barcelona or any one of their fans. I wasn't wrong and if I was, I would continue to be wrong my whole life because I'd keep doing it. I tried to be respectful and I believe I was. I'll keep defending Madrid and the way I have done it has been respectful."
About Iker, Arbeloa was blunt: "My relationship with Casillas wasn't the best but that wasn't because I injured his hand - that was just accidental during a match. I'm lucky in that I got along with everyone. I'm grateful for what Casillas said because he had no need to and if he said it, it's because he felt it. Plus. he can say whatever he wants. I'm lucky that I'm not spiteful as you can end up destroying yourself like that, and the relationship with Casillas is one of respect."
