Atalanta was held 0-0 against Udinese, missing the opportunity to tie Napoli for first place on the table. However, they were lucky to escape with a draw because of Marco Carnesecchi's woodwork and vigilant goalkeeping. Atalanta is now two points behind Napoli, who have already played 19 games and will visit Hellas Verona on Sunday. This was Atalanta’s second straight draw. Udinese is now ninth on the table with 26 points in total from the season so far.
Carnesecchi had to make an incredible stop to keep a header from Jaka Bijol off the line just after the interval, but the home team dominated most of the game and came dangerously near. Shortly before halftime, Atalanta saw another lucky break when Alexis Sánchez of Udinese hit the woodwork with a header and rattled the crossbar from the rebound before Carnesecchi stopped Sandi Lovric's attempt in a spectacular sequence.
