Athletic Bilbao defeats Mallorca in La Liga to stay put in top four

Athletic Bilbao defeated Mallorca 4-0 in La Liga. The fifth-place Basques are currently two points behind third-place Atletico Madrid and fourth-place Barcelona, who both have games this weekend. After just 16 minutes, Athletic took a commanding lead thanks to a goal from defender Yuri Berchiche, who broke the deadlock with an unusual hooked attempt and later volleyed home his second.

Iker Muniain and Gorka Guruzeta both scored goals in the second half and helped the hosts secure a commanding win. The sole drawback for Ernesto Valverde's team was the concern about Inaki and Nico Williams' injuries. After 67 minutes, Nico hobbled out with a thigh ailment, while Inaki trailed him in the last stages with what appeared to be an ankle injury. When Athletic visits Atletico Madrid in the opening leg of the Copa del Rey semifinal, they will be hoping that duo are available.
