Atletico Madrid are keen to sign a new defensive midfielder

Given that Koke Resurreccion isn't getting any younger and Thomas Lemar is anticipated to leave at some point in 2024, Atleti will need to expand their midfield alternatives. Samu Costa, a Portuguese pivot for Mallorca, has been linked to them, and now they are interested in another La Liga player.

Atleti has expressed interest in Dario Essugo, who is presently on loan at Las Palmas from Sporting CP, according to El Desmarque (via ED). The 19-year-old has shown promise while playing football in Spain, and it looks like a transfer to a big team is imminent. Atleti is not just pursuing Essugo; Real Sociedad is also reportedly considering him as a potential replacement for Martin Zubimendi, who is expected to join Arsenal at the end of the current campaign. The money to move for the adolescent would be available since they would earn €60 million from that sale.
