Atletico Madrid secures a 2-0 win against Rayo Vallecano at Wanda Metropolitano

With a 2-0 home win over Rayo Vallecano on Sunday, defending champions Atletico Madrid got back on track after four straight league losses, courtesy to a brace from Argentinian winger Angel Correa. After a nervy start, Diego Simeone's team settled in and took the lead just before half-time, when Correa reacted quickest among a crowd of players after Mario Hermoso's attempt was blocked, and rifled a shot home from close range. Correa added another from close range following a wonderful move that saw Thomas Lemar put Renan Lodi free on the left and he left his attacker with an easy assignment from six yards out.

Following a loss to Seville the previous week, Atleti was aiming to get back on track. Rayo had also hoped to extend their winning streak following their 2-0 win over Alaves. Atletico is currently in the fourth position, while Rayo is in fifth place.
