Atletico Madrid suffers another setback in the La Liga title race

Atletico Madrid is now six points behind Barcelona after suffering yet another setback in the race for the La Liga title. Atletico Madrid has now lost all three of their recent La Liga games. With a disheartening 1-1 draw against Espanyol on Saturday in La Liga, Atletico Madrid's limited prospects of winning the Spanish championship were further dashed.

Despite playing an additional game, the Rojiblancos were six points behind league leaders Barcelona after Cesar Azpilicueta gave the visitors the lead and Javi Puado gave the Catalan team a point with a penalty. Real Madrid further widened the gap by beating Leganes 3-2 later on Saturday, while Barcelona will host Girona in a Catalan derby on Sunday. Diego Simeone's team knew they couldn't afford to lose any more ground in the fight for the championship after Barca defeated Atletico 4-2 in their last top-division match before the international break.
