Barcelona are reportedly preparing to reopen negotiations with Frenkie de Jong and his agent regarding a new contract. The Dutch midfielder’s current deal runs until 2026, but persistent speculation about his future has prompted the club to act. According to Diario AS, Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco, is set to propose an extension that involves a significant salary reduction. De Jong is among the highest earners in the squad, and the club aims to ease their financial burden by restructuring his wages.
De Jong, however, has consistently expressed his love for the club and his desire to continue his career at Camp Nou. His agent recently emphasized that the midfielder’s main focus is “to remain fit and shine longer at the club he loves and calls home.” It appears that De Jong must accept the revised terms if he wishes to stay in Catalunya.
