Borussia Dortmund were defeated 3-2 by Hertha Berlin, losing ground on Bayern Munich at the top of the Bundesliga table. Dortmund took a first-half lead thanks to Julian Brandt, but Hertha Berlin fought back with three straight goals in Berlin's Olympic Stadium. A Dortmund blunder was at the heart of all three Hertha goals: Belfodil got away from Witsel much too easily, and Vladimir Darida was given time in the center of the park to pick out the striker's run. Richter was then given far too much time and space after striking gold in the top corner, and he was not picked up with Belfodil.
Three goals were written off by VAR in a game that was full of suspense and activity, as the technology once again proved to be a deciding factor in the game's outcome. The two-goal hero Marco Richter was awarded Man of the Match.
