South Coast rivals Southampton were easily defeated 3-1, with to goals from Antoine Semenyo, Dango Ouattara, and Evanilson, who netted Bournemouth's first goal.
After 17 minutes at the Vitality Stadium on Monday, Brazilian striker Evanilson guided past former Cherries goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale due to Marcus Tavernier's fast thinking following a Bournemouth free-kick. After Semenyo's cut-back was hammered towards goal by Lewis Cook and deflected beyond Ramsdale off his teammate, Ouattara was given credit for Bournemouth's second goal. Then, in the 38th minute, Semenyo put the icing on the cake with a spectacular first-half display, swaying this way and that before drilling into the bottom-left corner. After been spectacularly denied by Kepa Arrizabalaga moments earlier, Taylor Harwood-Bellis cut the deficit early in the second half, stooping low to nod home from Mateus Fernandes' cross five minutes after the restart.
