Carabao Cup: the final will be Manchester City-Chelsea

Maurizio Sarri's criticism of the mentality of his players went answered as the Blues booked their Wembley place for the Carabao Cup final after overcoming rivals Tottenham Hotspur in a penalty shoot-out.

Following a 1-0 defeat in the first leg, home side Chelsea raced out with first-half goals from N'Golo Kanté and Eden Hazard handing the hosts the advantage.

It was Llorente who put Spurs back into the tie just after half-time.

From the 2018/19 season the competition has abandoned extra-time in the semifinal in favour of moving straight to the dreaded penalty shoot-out.

Eric Dier blazed his spot-kick over the crossbar before Lucas Moura had his effort parried by Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Chelsea's final kick-taker was David Luiz, and with the assistance of an extraordinarily long run-up the Brazilian fired the ball past Paulo Gazzaniga into the net, sparking wild celebrations around the ground, which included new-signing Gonzalo Higuain.
