Rafa Benítez’s tenure at Celta Vigo began on Sunday with a 2-0 home loss to Osasuna in the Spanish league. Celta surrendered a goal in either half, giving the experienced coach a disappointing start after taking over the team in the offseason. Celta had only one shot on goal at Vigo's Balados stadium. Osasuna, who finished seventh last season and won a berth in the Europa Conference League, got goals from Rubén Garca and Moi Goméz.
"When you face a team that qualified for a European competition and kept its core of players, you notice that we are still missing a few things," Benítez remarked. "We will try to make up for that with hard work and, if possible, by adding to the squad through transfers." Benítez was previously the manager of Real Madrid, Liverpool, Inter Milan, Chelsea, and Napoli in England. In 2005, he helped Liverpool win the Champions League.
