De Jong’s new deal with Barcelona nearing completion

FC Barcelona are close to completing the renewal of Frenkie de Jong before the end of the month, according to reports from Quim Casademunt of Diario Sport. The Dutch midfielder, whose current contract expires in 2026, has accepted a significant pay cut to remain at the Azulgrana club. The midfielder set to earn around €17 million and help improve the club’s Financial Fair Play situation, according to Sport.

De Jong will then now be paid around 17 million euros gross per year, significantly less than his previous figure. This restructuring will allow Barcelona to improve their Financial Fair Play situation and facilitate the signing of new signings for next season.

De Jong's continuity is seen as key to Hansi Flick's project, who has made him a key player in midfield, despite some famous journalist of football market had been officializing since years his departure as sure.
