Denmark's European Championship journey reached the round of sixteen following a hard-fought 0-0 draw with Serbia on Tuesday. Despite having the same number of points as Slovenia at the end of Group C, the Danes emerged in second position due to their superior discipline record. At Euro 2024, Slovenia—which drew 0-0 with group winners England—also made it to the knockout stage.
Even though Serbia needed to win in order to advance to the next round, Denmark had the better opportunities. And Christian Eriksen, who was playing for his nation for a record 133 times, was the main conduit for virtually all of those Danish possibilities. Points, goal differential, and goals scored were all equal for Denmark and Slovenia in the end. The players on both teams also received six yellow cards apiece.
