Karim Adeyemi's outstanding goal gave Borussia Dortmund a 1-0 victory over Chelsea in the Champions League round of 16 first leg on Wednesday, extending their winning streak for the year. This season, Chelsea's efficiency in front of goal has been an issue for the Premier League club, as they have only recorded one victory. Against Dortmund, they had a number of missed opportunities, including one when they struck the woodwork through Joao Felix but could not level the score.
Both teams had to wait until the second half to have their first attempts on goal, with Chelsea's Kepa Arrizabalaga blocking Julian Brandt's low shot and Kobel deflecting a strong Reece James free kick wide. But after 63 minutes, Dortmund scored thanks to some excellent work from Adeyemi who sprinted after grabbing a clearance from a Chelsea corner and even beat Fernandez to put the goal past Kepa.
