Everton suffered a 4-1 humiliation at home to Brighton & Hove Albion

Just minutes into the second half, Jeremy Sarmiento's cutback was turned past Jordan Pickford by Evan Ferguson, giving Frank Lampard's team a bigger deficit. Solly March was given the opportunity to rush onto Ferguson's pass and unleash a powerful drive, further adding to the misery of the Blues. Before the hour mark, Pascal Gross capitalized on Idrissa Gueye's errant backpass to score Brighton's fourth goal by chipping the ball over Pickford.

After Brighton goalkeeper Robert Sanchez shoved over Alex Iwobi in stoppage time, Demarai Gray converted a late penalty kick for a consolation goal. The large margin of victory spoke for itself, but Brighton's goal scorers' identities served as a reminder of Everton's flawed approach to signing players. If nothing extraordinary changes, Everton will once again appear to have entered the market unprepared, leaving them at the mercy of clubs casting off.
