Gomes thinks Portugal can deal with Ronaldo's absence

Now that the international break is upon us, the Portugal national team is about to get into the dynamic of a whole new competition. With the European Championship success still in their minds, they are about to embark on a new journey without their main player who precisely got injured during the final against France at the Euros. They didn't really need Ronaldo on that match, that's the reason why many Portugal players like Andre Gomes think they can go without CR7 for a couple of matches.

Talking to O Jogo, Gomes said: "Ronaldo is a very important player, who is always ready to play and is a great example for all. We know how to make the group strong... the coach trusts everyone. Of course, things have greatly improved and it's with great pride that I say I'm a European champion. It was a very happy summer for me. I was also pleased by my club situation."

Cristiano Ronaldo is currently still on recovery from a knee ligament injury he suffered during the Euros final after a Dimitri Payet unfortunate tackle. Portugal will have to play a friendly match against Gibraltar this Thursday and then they will travel to Switzerland to play their first World Cup qualifying match of the season. They will have to do all that without Ronaldo for now.
