In their pursuit of the Champions League, Freiburg holds off 10-man Wolfsburg

Max Rosenfelder's first Bundesliga goal helped Freiburg defeat 10-man Wolfsburg 1-0, bolstering their hopes of playing in Europe the following season. The Volkswagen Arena encounter between Wolfsburg and Freiburg was essential to both clubs' chances of making it to Europe. Freiburg came into the game hoping to maintain their spot in the top five after winning two straight games. In the meantime, Wolfsburg was keen to break a six-game losing record at home and rekindle their own ambitions of qualifying for Europe.

Wolfsburg captain Maximilian Arnold's reckless attack on Junior Adamu in the 26th minute resulted in a straight red card, drastically altering the course of the match. This expulsion gave Freiburg a numerical advantage for more than an hour and prompted the hosts to change their approach. Freiburg's persistence paid off four minutes into the second half. Max Rosenfelder scored a well-taken goal to put his name on the scoresheet in only his tenth Bundesliga game and gave his side much needed three points.
