For the 2022–23 season, the 35-year-old, Francesco Acerbi signed a season-long loan agreement with the Nerazzurri and quickly established himself as a key cog in Simone Inzaghi's three-man defense. Acerbi finished his first season at San Siro with 49 appearances, one goal, and one assist.
Acerbi started all 10 of the Nerazzurri's Champions League games, and the Nerazzurri kept clean sheets in eight of those contests. Acerbi also assisted the Nerazzurri in winning the Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana double. Acerbi's loan agreement with Inter expired on June 30, but the Italian international has now joined on as a permanent member of the team for a reported sum of €3.5 million (£3 million), after a similar transfer for midfielder Kristjan Asllani. Milan is eager to put the player to work once more at San Siro.
