Thibaut Courtois' injury to Madrid's starting custodian created an opening for Kepa to conclude a loan transfer to the Spanish powerhouses. Prior to that, though, he was on the verge of signing with the Bundesliga champions and even had a conversation with coach Tuchel because he was anxious for a change despite Mauricio Pochettino's promises that he would be Chelsea's starting custodian. But when he received a call from the top tiers of the Santiago Bernabeu, things took a drastic turn and he was forced to reconsider.
Kepa has had a strong start to his Madrid career, allowing only two goals in his first four league appearances. The Spaniard now has no desire to return to Chelsea and wants to stay with the capital-based team when his loan period is up. He expressed his sincere wish that Real Madrid will keep him after the season.
