Liverpool trashed Tottenham to book Wembley showdown

Liverpool delivered a commanding performance at Anfield, defeating Tottenham 4-0 to secure their place in the EFL Cup final with a 4-1 aggregate victory.

Cody Gakpo opened the scoring in the 33rd minute, finishing expertly after a sublime assist from Mohamed Salah with the outside of his boot.

Tottenham suffered a setback before half-time as Richarlison left the pitch injured, paving the way for Mathys Tel to make his debut.

Shortly after the break, Spurs goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky fouled Darwin Nunez in the box, and Salah converted the resulting penalty to double Liverpool's lead in the 49th minute.

Dominik Szoboszlai added a third with a precise strike in the 75th minute, effectively ending Tottenham's hopes of a comeback. Virgil van Dijk sealed the victory with a towering header in the 80th minute.

The result sets up an exciting final against Newcastle United on Sunday, 16 March 2025, at Wembley.
