Erik Ten Hag, the underperforming manager, was oddly retained as manager despite a big ownership battle that resulted in INEOS taking over the athletic portion of the company. There hasn't been much of an improvement with their summer signings. Manuel Ugarte is unable to enter the field at all. Luke Shaw's persistent injury issues at left-back have been a source of confusion for United's medical staff, making it a problematic position for them. They need a solution, and Chelsea has one in their own England international, who is prone to injuries. But there are other teams that are also interested.
Ben Chilwell, who had struggled for a few years, has finally found his fitness—just in time to discover that Chelsea no longer needs him. He hasn't been seen on the field since making a fleeting appearance during the EFL Cup.
