Marseille moves up to second place after beating Montpellier 5-1

With two goals from Mason Greenwood, Marseille defeated bottom-place Montpellier 5-1 to reclaim second place from Monaco, who had previously drawn 0-0 with Strasbourg. A sequence of five losses in their last seven games had threatened to ruin Marseille's hopes of qualifying for the Champions League, putting pressure on Roberto De Zerbi's team. However, they had little trouble defeating Montpellier at home, who have now dropped 11 straight games and will undoubtedly be down.

With his two goals and the penalty kick that opened the scoring, Greenwood currently leads the league with 18 goals this season, only eclipsed by PSG's Ousmane Dembele, who has 21 goals. Marseille won at the Velodrome thanks to goals from Adrien Rabiot, Jonathan Rowe, and Wilfried Ndollo Bille. This moved them one point ahead of Monaco. Monaco's draw with Strasbourg keeps them three points clear of their fifth-place competitors.
