Ebusua Dwarfs failed to turn things around at home against a clinical WAFA side despite a late rally to get into a game they trailed by three goals by the 60th minute.
Playing at the Cape-Coast Stadium, Ebusua Dwarfs hoped to get all three points against their opponents who have had a topsy-turvy season so far.
The “abontoa bontoa” lads’ intentions did not go as planned as Dwarfs found themselves trailing in the 36th minute after Richard Danso put his side in the lead. A powerful shot inside the Dwarfs goal area was loosely cleared by Dwarfs goalkeeper and the ball fell to Richard Danso who intercepted and knocked it into the gaping Dwarfs net.
Dwarfs immediately searched for the equalizer determined to redeem their image but Solomon Okudzeto was found in an offside position. Prosper Ahiabu in the 40th minute looked to right the wrong of his side in the offensive area but his shot went agonizingly wide.
Dwarfs were to be punished immediately for their misses as Charles Boateng put WAFA 2-0 up in the 41st minute. Goal scorer, Richard Danso magically weaved his way past his marker before lifting a delightful ball to Charles Boateng who connected expertly to put the Sogakope lads 2-0 up. The game ended 2-0 in the first half much to the satisfaction of the visitors.
The second half started with Dwarfs’ introduction of Abu Naba as Awudu was taken off. WAFA responded to the change in the 48th minute with Augustine Boakye coming on for Jamal Haruna. The change did little to tweak the direction of the game as scores stayed same. WAFA came close to making the score 3-0 in the 55th minute when a well delivered free kick was met by Basiru whose header went shockingly off target.
WAFA however made amends in the 60th minute when Justice Amate chipped the ball over the on-rushing Dwarfs goalkeeper to make it 3-0. WAFA kept possession of the ball for long periods after the third goal as Dwarfs desperately looked to get back in the game.
Unrelenting and determined to save their faces, Solomon Okudzeto was on hand to whip in a poor clearance by goalkeeper Ayi Richmond to make the scoreline 1-3.
Osman Mohammed was on hand to score Dwarfs’ second goal from the spot when the match official at the centre of the game opined that the ball had hit the hand of Alhassan in the box. Despite showing determination and forcing WAFA to make mistakes late in the game, Dwarfs failed to get the much needed third goal to draw level with their guests.
Elsewhere at Anyinase Cam Park, Karela FC who beat Hearts of Oak by three goals to one in midweek were held to a pulsating 0-0 draw by Elmina Sharks.
