Napoli beats Salernitana to break into top four

Napoli, the reigning Italian champions, defeated southern neighbors Salernitana 2-0 earlier on Saturday to move into the top four temporarily. Inter, Juventus, and Milan remain ahead of the champs, but Napoli are putting early-season nerves behind them as French coach Rudi Garci begins to make an impression. Whereas Salernitana still remains winless this season.

Napoli were missing injured Nigerian attacker Victor Osimhen, who was set to face Union Berlin in the Champions League in midweek. Giacomo Raspadori scored in 13 minutes in his absence, and Macedonian winger Eljif Elmas sealed the win in 82 minutes with a curling goal after an amazing burst down the left. In another game, if AC Milan was expecting a confidence boost before hosting PSG in the Champions League on Tuesday, they were let down by Roberto Pereyra's 62nd-minute penalty at the San Siro.
